Remember the Milk
April 21st, 2007 01:49 am
I happened across this article titled "Web 2.0 wave starts to take hold". (And also in breaking news: new communication technology that the kids are calling "cell phones". Tune in at 8 for the full story!)

Rather dull article, but they mention a site called Remember the Milk, task management software. I've only had time to check it out briefly, but the fact that you can text message yourself to do items is pretty spiffy. Plus, you can attach an item to a googlified location, so you can look up the things you need to do when you're there. Now, if only you could tie this to GPS and have it send you a reminder when you're passing by the dry cleaners...

I think I may be saying goodbye to ta-da list, much as I love the name.

Community Sites Poll
May 12th, 2006 01:40 pm
I had the idea this morning of taking a poll to get a general feel for what people feel is important for a community site, and posting it on every community site that I know of. I'd like to start with a preliminary poll though, to get an idea of what's out there, and if there are any questions that I should be asking that I don't know about yet.

I decided to make all of the fields textboxes, to make it easy for people to put in thing I hadn't heard or thought of. However, there are some options you might want to look at below the poll.

Feel free to expand your thoughts in the comments, and feel free to link to the poll in your blog.

Dear 30boxes,

I swear, I didn't plan it this way. It just sort of... happened. I never wanted to hurt you!

It's just... well, you see... I've met someone else.

I'm sorry.

books!
January 18th, 2006 08:11 am
So, everyone was going on and on about this LibraryThing website, which allows you to catalog your book collection online. I just didn't get it. Why was that so exciting? Can't ya just go look at the shelf?

Then earlier today I was wanting to post and ask people for book recommendations, and was trying to gather a list of the books I like so that people would know my taste. While typing them out I thought, "Now wouldn't it be nice to have something like an amazon.com wishlist, only it stored the books I've read and like instead of the ones I don't have yet?" After my eyes recovered from the brightness of the proveribal lightbulb above my head, I pointed my broweser to librarything.com and started cataloging.

My collection focuses on the books I think are really great, regardless of if I actually own them. So, whaddya say... I'll show you mine, if you show me yours...

By and large, I prefer using Postgres to mySQL any day. Except for two things.

1. \G is at the end of a query, instead of the off and on toggle \x.
2. The 'INSERT INTO tablename SET key = value' syntax is the coolest thing EVAR.
