in a nutshell

I found out today that there is a vaccine for Hepatitis A and B. Did y'all know that? Apparently they started giving it to kids in the mid-90's, but I was past the vaccination-getting age at that point.

Vaccinations for STD's make me happy to a silly extreme. It makes me feel like... we're winning.

All of History: Sex is bad, m'kay?
The 70's: Hey, wait... maybe sex is actually... GOOD! (Proceeds to go crazy with it.)
The 80's: D'oh, STD's. I guess sex is bad after all.
Modern vaccinations: Sex is good again, and we did it with SCIENCE. Take that, God.

Yup. I believe the reason kids were required to start getting the vaccinations was because of the hepatitis contaminated produce scare back in the 90s.

Yeah got mine around '94 or so. They were actually giving it to teenagers at that point, so you would have been the right age. I don't know if that's still what they do, but when I started going in for the pill they suggested I get that done as well.

Thanks for reminding me that I've been wanting to get the HPV vaccine. I didn't back when I had university insurance because it wouldn't cover the uber-expensive shot series, but it never occurred to me to check whether it is covered under my current plan. If it still isn't covered, I'll probably end up holding off until I'm not having monogamous sex with Brad anymore or I'm about to turn 26. Whichever comes first.
