Inquiring minds want to know. How do you...
1. Find new music?
2. Acquire said music once it is found? (Physical CDs? Itunes? iPirate.com?)
3. Store and organize your music?
4. Select and listen to music?
5. Share music with your friends?

1. Friends, Rhapsody, Pandora, web sites, mailing lists, torrent sites, even Youtube. There's a hell of a lot of music on Youtube. I just found a local band through a mailing list. I went to their myspace and liked what I heard.
2. Mostly download mp3s. Either legitimately or not. I also buy physical CDs. I can't stand iTunes. I've started using Amazon's mp3 thing though.
3. Most of my music is on my linux server stored in directories based on genre.
4. I use wither Winamp or VLC on my laptop to listen to music and sometimes pump it through my stereo. I make mix mp3 CDs for my car and listen to a lot of music that way.
5. I make mp3 mix CDs for friends. Sometimes I gmail them a song or give them a link to the song. Or sometimes to a youtube video. I lend CDs.

1. My students hook me up with the best new artists. They know my tastes since I play music all of the time, and they're constantly suggesting people for me to check out. I wouldn't have a clue without them. (One of the true benefits of teaching high school!)
2. I'm a real stickler about this since our household is directly affected by music pirating. I always buy; usually from iTunes, but sometimes physical CDs.
3. iTunes, bay-bee
4. Shuffle is my friend. I also make playlists.
5. Usually just by listening together or suggesting songs I've liked recently.
Also, HI! How's San Francisco treating you?

1. Find new music?
Typically I'll hear something on KCRW, KUSC 91.5 or Indie 103.1 that piques my interest. Television and orchestral soundtracks round out the collection.
2. Acquire said music once it is found? (Physical CDs? Itunes? iPirate.com?)
The immediate gratification streak in my personality causes me to purchase music from the iTunes store on a weekly basis. If the store doesn't have what I'm looking for (e.g., Roisin Murphy's Overpowered), then I'll hit up Amoeba Music and get the needed CD from their pantagruelian-sized warehouse.
3. Store and organize your music?
Store: 1.) iPod; 2.) Call me a traditionalist, but I still like to carry CD libraries in my car.
Organize: It doesn't happen.
4. Select and listen to music?
Not sure what you mean by select, other than select which tracks to listen to.
5. Share music with your friends?
I send e-mails threatening to friends.

1. Friends, roommates (we share our music files on a wireless network), Last.fm, Song of the Day on NPR.org, scrolling through friends' iPods during Happy Hour is a recent tactic. Or going into Everyday Music and just listening to the CDs they have available for listening.
2. Purchase CDs either in stores or at shows, beg for a burned copy from friends, beg for files to share.
3. I have one giant MP3 folder on my computer, and about 3/4 of those songs on my 20gig iRiver. I have a few stacks of purchased CDs on my shelf on my desk at home, and older ones in a drawer somewhere. (I'm building a bit of a library on my work computer, too, in the Windows Media Library.)
4. Scroll until I see something that looks good. Often I want to hear something I just heard someone else listening to, or something playing in my favorite cafe reminds me I haven't heard Joy Division in a while or whatever.
5. Usually I just put several things I think they'll like on a memory stick and lend said stick to them. Sometimes I upload and link songs in my journal. Sometimes I'll buy CDs for presents. I like the mixed CD concept but I can't ever seem to actually make one.

That's a neat idea.
